After a 4 hour unexpected slog up a 617m HILL we arrived at Pisa in the early afternoon. Pudsey insisted on having his picture taken with the tower so we took him into town for the evening. Next day we headed for Siena on the SS67 – or what we thought was the SS67 – which unexpectedly turned into the motorway?! Despite ‘friendly’ motorists waving and blowing their horns we pressed on, until we got escorted by police on to the real SS67 to Siena.

Great campsite at Siena (alas on top of a hill – why are all the best campsites on tops of mountains???) and a lovely Tuscan town, very typically Italian, complete with its own mummified Saint Catherine’s head in the cathedral, circa 12th century. The obligatory sightseeing was done, and we headed off again into the lovely Tuscan countryside, complete with rolling hills (aarrrgghh – the H word again).
