A few days out of Karachi we arrived in Hyderabad, the fourth largest city in Pakistan. Our police guard escorted us to a good hotel (and left instructions with management that we were not to be allowed out of the hotel without a police escort! So off we went (with the police acting as our taxi / tour guide!) to visit the famous Kalhora monuments – tombs of the Kalhora rulers of Sindh dating from 1771AD and 1780AD.

The day before leaving Hyderabad we were sad to hear about a bombing in Karachi, where we were a few days before. The bomb exploded outside the KFC in Clifton, which unfortunately killed 6 people.

The next day after leaving Hyderabad, we broke our journey at Bhit Shah, to visit the famous resting place of Shah Abdul Latif (1752AD), the great poet-saint of Sindh. That evening we rested at the small town of Hala, and visited the impressive resting place of another great saint of Sindh, Makhdoom Nooh. Both sites were crowded with pilgrims who had come to pay their respects, as well as food and bric-a-brac sellers and beggars.
