They seek her here, they seek her there, they seek her everywhere, is she in Aigle or in Villeneuve, that elusive Sedeuve..

What an afternoon! Since Nic is male and Sedef female – in case you couldn’t tell, Nic’s cycling pace is slightly more than Sedefs. Which means that occasionally he cycles ahead and waits at strategic points for her to get there, but today she simply disappeared!!!

Nic waited and ended up talking to a French cyclist cycling to Lake Como when a motorist pulled up and said then Sedef was in trouble further back! So Nic cycled back 15 miles to the last place he saw her at Villeneuve- but no sign of her! So he cycled back thinking she must be waiting. Returning back to the town of Aigle, there was still no sign, so Nic feared the worse and went to the Police Station – where they checked with other stations to see if a cyclist was involved in an accident! Thankfully none reported, so they told him to continue waiting at the proscribed place.

So he went back, but passing the local hospital decided to try there too, where he described that he was expecting Sedef to turn up in the town, this led to some confusion as the hospital was a maternity hospital and they thought he was saying Sedef was rushed in as she was expecting!!!!

After ten minutes frantic gesturing that he had lost Sedef and not an father-to-be, an extremely helpful doctor helped by phoning all the hospitals in the area and confirming no one has been admitted – which was a big relief! Though it still left the answer of where is Sedef unanswered!

All of this took 4 hours, where at last walkie-talkie contact was established and Sedef’s location was revealed! She had reached the town at the end of todays route having cycled past the town at which Nic was waiting!

With night drawing in and the rain starting Nic set off for the final 16 miles to reach Sedef – making his total mileage that day the same as Sedefs + 30 miles extra!

Soaked through…

Thankfully this was just a slip on the route, but it showed just how traumatic it can when one person is missing? Likewise Sedef was worrying about Nic’s whereabouts, fortunately there was a happy ending – but don’t forget the extra 30 miles :p
