Our departure from Greece wouldn’t have been complete without a biblical flood! We woke up in the early hours of the morning with rain hammering on the tent and the sound of ferocious splashing of waves what sounded like a few meters away. So we did the brave thing…and went back to sleep!

Awakening a few hours later we found that the storm was still in full swing, and that our tent now featured a new indoor swimming pool! Which resulted in a world-record ‘abandon tent!’ evacuation, followed by a morning’s cleaning of the tent and all our stuff which was sodden wet!

Having checked into the nice hotel across the road and a hot shower we therefore had no option but to stay the day in Alexandropoli whilst our stuff dried back at the campsite. On the bright side, Nic managed to cram in a few more dozen galactabourekos in that evening…..

Seeing the news later on telly we saw that most of the Thrace region of Greece had endured the storm – the pictures showed some towns under 2-3 feet of water so we felt we got off quite lightly. A few more hours and we might have been swept out to sea, and would have completed our journey to Sydney by floating tent! www.nutsonfloatingtents.com :p
